In 1983, I lost an opportunity to attend a training program in another country. Also, I had failed for the second time my exams for another diploma. In this atmosphere of pain, I began to doubt the existence of my "gods" and the fetish power in my village. On the way home from Lomé to my village, I met two student pastors from the Togo Bible Institute. They told me about Jesus for the first time. I accepted him as my personal Savior. I was baptized in water. The next year I obtained my diploma.
During a revival in 1985, I received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues for the first time. The next year, during a time of fasting and prayer, I saw in a vision a great crowd of people running on a hillside. A voice said to me, "They are without a shepherd; who will lead them?" I felt my heart beat faster, but I said to myself that I could not be a pastor for family reasons. At that moment I felt in my heart a burning fire.
I said nothing to anyone and continued to suffer. On Wednesday I went to church. A visiting pastor was the speaker. His first words were, "I have been sent by the Lord, for there are people in this church whom He has called and who refuse to go." AT this, I heard a voice in my heart say, "That's you." Four of us responded. When the assistant pastor, a student at WAAST, laid his hands on me, I felt in my heart the coolness of ice, and peace returned to me.
The next year I was sent to the Bible institute, and attended WAAST from 1995-1998. Today I rejoice in great liberty and confidence in the Lord, knowing this secret: that the Cross precedes Glory and obedience precedes happiness.
